Profile pictures and cover photos play a major role in personalising social media profiles. Until now, the cover photo feature was exclusive to WhatsApp Business accounts, but that’s about to change. The Meta-owned messaging app is reportedly working on adding cover photo support for all users, signalling a broader push toward enhanced profile customisation. The feature is currently in development and may be released in a future update.
WhatsApp May Soon Allow All Users to Upload Cover Photos
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a new option that will let users upload and display cover photos on their profiles. Once this feature goes live, users will be able to select an image directly from their profile settings. The chosen cover photo will appear at the top of their profile—similar to what we already see on Facebook and LinkedIn.
A shared screenshot gives a preview of how the cover photo selection interface might look. WhatsApp is also expected to introduce new privacy settings for cover photos, allowing users to choose who can see them. The visibility options currently being tested include Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody, mirroring the settings available for profile photos and status updates.
If a user selects Everyone, the cover image will be visible to all WhatsApp users—even those not saved as contacts. Choosing My Contacts will restrict visibility to saved numbers, while Nobody will hide the image completely.
The new cover photo feature is reportedly being tested in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.32.2 for Android, which is currently rolling out through the Google Play Beta Program. Since it’s still under development, beta users won’t be able to access it yet. However, this update strongly indicates that cover photos will soon expand beyond WhatsApp Business, making their way to all users in the coming months.
